Stumbling Around in the Middle of the Night

I didn't realize that Digi Stamps 4 Joy was having a monthly Christmas Progressive Challenge
I stumbled onto this knowledge while doing a blog hop at Clear It Out Challenge Blog, which I stumbled onto when I visited Em's blog, one of my new Teammates at Tuesday Throwdown.  All of this was in the middle of the night when I should have been sleeping.  I have found that the middle of the night is a good time for visiting blogs and leaving some love for my teammates.
By the way, have you joined the fun at Tuesday Throwndown this week?
 It's an Anything Goes Challenge.
(I don't mind putting an extra plug in for Tuesday Throwdown this week.  It's Design Team A's week to leave comments for all the entrants.  I'm on Team B.)

Now where was I going with this????
Oh..  The Christmas Progressive Challenge at Digi Stamps 4 Joy...
You must enter the challenge with the free monthly digi in order to get the next month's free digi.  February's freebie is a cute dino.  I missed January and didn't want to miss February, too, so I quickly emailed Desire and she was kind enough to send me the digi last night.  With just a bit more than a day left before the challenge closed, I got to work on my card first thing this morning.

(oops, forgot to straighten and crop the photo, sorry,  just tilt your head a bit to the left)
The paper is from my Christmas stash, I used Spellbinders beaded circle dies, a Fiskars corner punch, Darice snowflake embossing folder,  markers, and CTMH gems and sentiment stamp.
I followed the current sketch, #80,  from the Feeling Sketchy Challenge , although I moved the border strip (I used a Dazzle self adhesive border.) to the top of the card instead of the bottom.

I will be entering my card there
as well as in the
and the following fun challenges:
The Stamping Boutique Challenge #5 - Use a punch or die cut
Emerald Fairies Challenge #52 - Let's see a Banner
Feeling Crafty Challenge #25 - Dies and or Punches
Lothian Crafts Online Challenge #31 - Love Using Your Dies
ABC Christmas Challenge - D is for die cuts

Now I must make a card for the blog hop challenge at Clear It Out, which I stumbled upon........

Triangle Fold

I was visiting Mema's Crafts blog and came across a tutorial for a triangle fold card.  Trying different card folds is one of my favorite things.   This was certainly easy to do, especially with the explicit instructions and pictures in the tutorial.

Moooojoooo Monnnndaaaay

No my keys are not sticking.
Today's Mojo Monday Sketch is for a Tall and Skinny Card.
I flipped the sketch on its side and made the card I am entering longgggg and skinny.

Using a CTMH Trifold Die Cut Card base 3.5" x 8", CTMH stamps and ribbon.

Papers are by Raspberry Roads Designs.  (Freebie from Quick Cards Magazine)

Inside of card

Creative Fingers Challenge #24  - Anything Goes

I finished another blanket and hat for my new great-granddaughter.  She wasn't due until March 3rd.  I thought I'd have it finished before she was born.  First babies aren't usually early.  Our little Laila was.
I was just doing the ruffled edge when she arrived last week.  It's really soft yarn, purple, blue and just a bit of bright pink.
Now I've bought some white, blue, and brown variegated yarn.  The next baby due in our family is going to be a little boy.

Congratulations to the new Mom

I don't usually find craft supplies at the grocery store.  But I recently came across a package of adorable 3D dinosaur stickers at the checkout.  All the stickers are of adult dinos with their offspring.  Since my granddaughter decided a while ago that she wanted purple not pink for her baby girl,  (She painted the room purple, had my mother make her purple sheets for the cradle, got a purple car seat, purple this, purple that...... ) I thought I'd use the purple Mommy Dino with Baby Dino sticker for her card.  The rest of the stickers will make great Mother's Day and Father's Day cards.  The triple loop bow was made with my Craft Dee Bowz Maker.
Sentiment stamp is CTMH

I am submitting this card to the following challenges:
My Time to Craft Challenge - New Things
Brown Sugar Challenge #82 - Use a Charm
Crafty Ribbons Challenge #77 - Anything Goes

I so love when the freebie that comes with my Quick Cards magazine is a paper pack.
The papers are always so pretty.

Here I used 6 different papers all from the same pack, a circle punch for the small circle, a die cut for the scalloped oval, and a border punch along the right side.  The butterfly and rose are stick-ons.  And the sentiment is a CTMH stamp.

I am entering this card in the following challenges:
Card Makin Mamas Challenge #81 - Stack It Up
Daring Cardmakers Challenge - Old But Not Forgotten (That would be the rose and butterfly stick-ons)
The Stamping Boutique Challenge # 5- Use a Punch or Die Cut

Amusing Challenge - 6 or more papers

Care for a Cup?

I found this tea cup on my messy craft/dining room table.  It was stamped, fussy cut, and clear embossed.  When did I do that?  Why do I do that, and not use it?  Before it got buried again, I decided to give it a home.  The current sketch at Glitter N Sparkle helped provide just that.
I used a scalloped square punch for the corner pieces, a scalloped border punch for the one horizontal strip, to which I added some faux stitching, and spellbinder dies for the scalloped oval and sentiment die cut, which is distressed and has a touch of faux stitching also. The stamps I used and the bling are all CTMH. And I debossed the background.

I am submitting this card to the following:
Creative Knockouts Challenge #25 - No Square Cards
Digi Stamps 4 Joy Challenge #86 - Use Dies or Punches
The Paper Shelter Challenge #146 - Punches and Dies
Penny's Paper Crafty Challenge #165 - Lots of Layers

She's here

As of 4:48 this morning, I officially became a great grandmother.  Mother and baby doing well.  We've been to visit them in the hospital and all had a chance to cuddle the babe cuddle a bit.  The baby's such a little doll.  She has the cutest dimples.  I think the blankets in which she is bundled weigh more than her 6 lbs 7 oz.   I'll be adding a few rows to one of the hats I made her because it doesn't quite cover her tiny ears.  My granddaughter loved the cocoon I made, although she called it a taco, and will probably be bringing the baby home in it tomorrow evening.

Here is a card I made in anticipation of the occasion.  I punched the edges of the layers to give the appearance of several baby blankets.  The moons on her pj's  have glittered flocking on them.  The image is a digital stamp by Teroladas (printed once on white cs and once of the DP so I could paper piece the jammies) and the sentiment is a CTMH stamp.

I plan to enter this card in the following challenges:

Digi Stamps 4 Joy Challenge #86 - Use Dies or Punches
Fab n Funky Challenge #204 - Spots or Stripes
Flourishes Timeless Tuesday #259 - A Lotta Polka Dots

I almost forgot.

Nominated for a what?

After shoveling another 3 inches of snow this morning, I reheated my tea and then let it get cold while I made this card, using this month's From the Heart digi image,  for the From the Heart February Challenge.
I didn't want to bling it up too much, so I could use it as a guy birthday card.

Challenges for this card include:
A Little Bit Crafty February Challenge - Man Up!

Liebster Blog Award

Hello, everyone.   I was honored, I think,  to be nominated for a Liebster Blog Award by KT over at KT Designs. Thank you, KT!  I Think!

I googled this interesting award and Sopphey at Sopphey's Says has a very interesting post explaining it and how it has changed, kind of like a game of whisper down the lane.

LiebsterBlogAward
Here are the current rules of the nomination:
  1. Be sure to thank the blog that nominated you and be sure to link back to their blog.
  2. Answer the 11 questions that the blogger asked you.
  3. Nominate 11 of your favourite blogs with under 500 followers and ask your own 11 questions.
  4. Make sure to let each blogger know about your Liebster Blog nomination on their blog (leave a comment and link back to your Liebster Blog post).
Here are my answers to KT's questions:
1.  What prompted you to create a blog?  I wanted to play Mojo Monday.
2.  What do you do with all the cards you make?  Some I send, some I sell, some go to Operation Write Home and some go to Send a Smile 4 Kids.
3.  What blog reader do you use?  Google Blogger (I'm asking this because I've had trouble with my Blogger Dashboard list loading lately.)
4.  Do you prefer traditional stamping with ink, or digital stamps, and why?  I don't really have a preference, each has perks and drawbacks.
5.  Do you work outside the home and, if so, what is/was your line of work? Nope, I am retired, unless you call doing CTMH Make and Takes for Joyce at stamping shows work.  Before retiring I did accounting work.
6.  What is your favourite craft item to purchase?  Embossing folders
7.  Do you enjoy walking or any other physical activity?  Playing with my grandkids, great physical activity.
8.  Do you have your own craft room?  :>(  Nope. I use the dining room table.
9.  Do you collect anything?  Paper and dust
10.  What is your favourite fruit or vegetable?  Maybe carrot cake.
11.  Do your family members/friends follow your blog?  only 66 of them.

Here are 11 of my favorite blogs that I have chosen to nominate for the Liebster Award and that my friend KT did not already nominate and that have less than 500 followers:

E Marie - CraftEMarie

And here are my questions for the 11 chosen blogs:

Would you like some of the snow currently in my yard?
seriously....

  1. What other types of crafts do you enjoy?
  2. Are you a paper hoarder?
  3. Do you ever go to Stamping Shows?
  4. What type of Make and Take Project would you sit down to do?
  5. Don't you hate when you get those Anonymous comments on your blog and it's someone trying to sell something?
  6. Where do you find the best tutorials for card techniques?
  7. Do you enjoy blog hops?
  8. What are your favorite blog hops?
  9. What is your favorite adhesive to use on your cards?
  10. If there were more hours in a day for blogging, what would you do more of?  (I never seem to take enough time writing comments on my friends' blogs, sorry.)
  11. Aren't I too young to be a great-grandmother?
  12. Why did I just spend the better part of the afternoon doing this instead of paying bills?  a) because I spent all my $$$ on craft supplies  b) it's better than shoveling snow   c) it is occupying my brain while I wait for word on whether my new great-granddaughter has made her appearance  d)  because I love my friend KT.

Tuesday Throwdown Challenge

The theme of this week's
Tuesday Throwdown Challenge # 183
 is
 Meljen's Designs Winged Fairy Tales.

And from the moment I first saw this winged pig, I knew I would use it for my Design Team card.

Actually, the way this winter has been, I considered a snowy card with the sentiment, It will stop snowing ... when pigs fly.  Yes, we are supposed to get some more of that white stuff today.  Boo. Hiss.  But it's bad enough having a couple foot of snow outside.  So I went in another direction.

I printed the If Pigs Could Fly image from Meljen's Designs on white CS and then used a scalloped oval die cut on both the image and the DP, creating a bit of a frame in the card base color.  (The Designer Paper came from my friend Sybilla's stash.  I was so happy when I got her email which simply said, 'Eureka, I found it'. Thanks Sybilla!)  I distressed the edges of the smaller oval with twilight ink, and made matching pig tails around it on the pink card base.  The sentiment was cut from the opposite side of the DP and also edged in the twilight ink.  Then I adhered some homespun ric-rac to the base and mounted the sentiment on top.  A simple knot of homespun ribbon finished it off.

I hope you'll have time to check out the other wonderful creations made by the other gals on Tuesday Throwdown Design Team B and also to play in this week's challenge.  Also, try to take a moment to browse through the terrific digital images available from Meljen's Designs Digital Stamps

*****************************

I promised yesterday to post a couple pictures of some of the crocheted baby items I've been making in anticipation of my great grandddaughter's entrance into our world, snowy though it may be.
First, a cocoon in which to bring her home:
(this is so soft)
a baby blanket and teeny, tiny matching hat

My granddaughter wanted purples for the baby.  It's not easy finding purple baby yarns.

I'm working on the edging of another blanket, so I'll show you that one later.
Maybe, by then, they'll be a tiny little one wrapped up in it.

Monday Morning Mojo

Flowers.
I needed to see flowers today,
and the Sweet Pea Collection of paper and chipboard from Kaiser Craft that came free with my Quick Cards magazine was just perfect for the Mojo Monday #333 Sketch.
(Sentiment stamp by CTMH)
I used an Oyster Pearl Silhouette Cover Paper from Marcos Paper for the base.  It has a beautiful sheen on one side, is white matte on the other, and embosses beautifully.  The teeny tiny white dots were made with an ultra fine tip attached to a liquid paper pen.  You can get the same teeny tiny dots by putting a blob of the liquid paper on a piece of scrap and then using a pin to apply it to your card.

I am entering this card in the following challenges:

613 Avenue Create Challenge # 59 - Anything Goes w/Twist RAK Day
Pile It On Challenge #7 - Sentiment as the main focus
Scribble and Scrap Challenge #12 - Always Anything Goes
Inkspirational Challenge #50 - Designer's Choice Tic Tac Toe (Flowers, Ribbon, Pearls)
Crafty Hands Challenge #8 - Embossed Background

Have a nice day!
I'll be posting photos of some of the cute baby items I've crocheted for my great granddaughter who should be arriving soon, so stop back tomorrow.  They are soooo cute.  The one hat is so tiny!

I just can't resist a pretty embossing folder.

Sometimes all you need for a pretty card is a great embossing folder.  I even found a roll of washi tape with the same bird and flower pattern.  On the front of the card it looks aqua over the cardstock. Inside the card I put the same tape over red cardstock for a different look.  The stamps I used are both CTMH.

I am entering this card in the following:
Scribble and Scrap Challenge #12 - Always Anything Goes
Sentimental Sundays Challenge # 194- Pack a Punch (I used a scalloped circle punch.)

Sealed with a Kiss

Happy Valentine's Day!
Cookies for Everyone!
Well, anyone that trudges through the 16+ inches of snow we got yesterday and knocks on my back door.
I have 4 very faithful neighborhood children that appear every now and then for a cookie.   Yesterday while it was still snowing I had a knock on my door. (I heard their laughter as they came across the yard in all that snow before they made it to the door, so I knew they were coming!)  First, Dominic very politely asked how my day was going.  Luke quickly followed that up with, do you have any cookies?  I was down to the last half dozen in the cookie jar and told them if I gave them each a cookie I'd have to bake more today.  They were fine with that, took a cookie, thanked me, and returned this afternoon before I even had all the cookies out of the oven.
Although we did get a lot more snow, we were fortunate not to lose power or any trees, and that our wonderful neighbor cleared our driveway with his snowblower.
*****************

I thought I'd try making a more masculine Valentine's Day card using this adorable pair of seals,
a digi image by Kris at Imagine That.
Instead of bright red, I used a barn red, some die cuts I found on my table and just a touch of bling.  The DP, sentiment stamp, and cricut cartridge I used for the die cuts are all from CTMH.

I am entering this in the following challenges:
A Creative Romance Challenge - Let's Get Sentimental

Oh Happy Day!!!! and CTMH Card Workshop 2/11/14

My laptop has returned and is working superbly!
3 Cheers for Danny!!!

********************
There is a plethora of challenges right now with valentine/love themes.
This card will be entered in just a few.

I taught card class for a group of ladies who belong to the Red Hat Society on Monday.  We get together every few months and make 4 cards using lots of red and purple, hat stamps, feathers and lots of bling.  Since we were meeting right before Valentine's Day, they asked me if they could make an iris fold heart card.  I had several papers from which they could choose and worked up samples so they would see how the finished heart would look.  This was one of the samples (using some Red Hat gift wrapping paper I found) which I later mounted onto embossed red CS, on purple CS, on a white card base.  That's washi tape up the left side under the red/white baker's twine.  I added some bling and a stamped sentiment to finish off the card.    Below are a few more sample iris folds which eventually will find their way onto cards.  For now they have been added to the 'stash'.
Here are the challenges into which I am entering the card above:
Fab n Funky Challenge #203 - Love/Valentine
The Stamp N Doodle Challenge #6 - Valentine's Day/Love
Cuttlebug Mania Challenge - A Touch of Red (I used 2 EF and my cuttlebug to do the embossing on the red and cream CS pieces.  The heart shape was cut with the cricut.)
Oldie but a Goodie Challenge - Valentine (The purple patterned wrapping paper I used for the iris folded heart has to be at least 10 years old!)
Shopping Our Stash Challenge #138 - Oh, Shiny! (The cream aperture paper has a glossy finish.)
Fantabulous Cricut Challenge #197 - i Heart you (I used the CTMH Art Philsophy cartridge)

Below are the cards we made this week at Joyce's CTMH card workshop.
Joyce used the layouts from the card making kit that was on special last month but instead of using the papers in the kit, we used the new papers that just came out in the Close to My Heart Spring/Summer catalog.  They are gorgeous!

Duck, duck, GOOSE

Remember playing Duck, Duck, Goose as a child?  Now the mere thought of it makes my knees hurt!
***********************
I was using up table scraps again when I made this card.
It seems the scraps have a way of multiplying on their own,
kind of like hangers in the closet.
Here I used a negative from making a scalloped oval die cut to frame this cute digi image from Doodle Pantry, a quarter inch strip of silver glitter paper, a purple border piece I punched for another card and then decided not to use, and some orange and purple CS scraps for behind the Doodle Pantry sentiment banners.
The purple dazzles, top and bottom, were fresh out of the pack.

This card is being entered in:
Inky Chicks Challenge #22 - Use a cute animal stamp
Digi Sketch Challenge - Use the Color Green
Doodle Pantry Digital Challenge #43 - Anything Goes with a Digi
Feeling Crafty Challenge #25 - Dies and/or Punches
